![]() ![]() Previous to this job, I used Oracle's PL/SQL to custom write ETL procedures as well as Oracle Warehouse Builder to do the same. I then use web services to securely "L"oad the data into a budgeting and analysis software. I then "E"xtract the data related to the general ledger and sometimes all of the transactions, and "T"ransform the data into something easily used for reporting needs. What I do specifically is use our tool to connect to multiple accounting system. ![]() One such tool that is open source would be Talend if you are interested in looking into it. In my case I use a third party, source independent, tool set to perform my ETL tasks. I work as an Integration Engineer currently so my whole day revolves around ETL. You can implement them yourself programmatically, but most modern BI software has support for ETL jobs. Take a look at star schemas:Įdit: ETL jobs can be performed in various ways. "BI-related stuff" usually operates on these large, warehoused databases rather than on your transactional system. This data is denormalized, and usually separate records are stored for every day (or every change, etc.) Unless you go to great pains to keep exhaustive history tables in this database (not really the best idea), it can be impossible to produce historical reports.ĮTL jobs typically "E"xtract and "T"ransform this data into a nother, typically de-normalized structure - usually on a separate database. This structure is a good way for your application to keep the data clean, but isn't necessarily the easiest way to produce complex reports. ![]() Each step requires data preparation, transformations, joining, splitting, twisting, morphing, outputting, inputting, etc.Data stored in a modern relational database is normalized to reduce data redundancy, ensure integrity etc. Analytics automation is a mixture of mastering hundreds of products, relational databases, excel, SQL, data science, and building visualizations. Automating analytics is a great career move and a high paying profession around the world. This community is designed to release helpful blogs, articles, open source wins, or tutorials that offer valuable data automation related content. ![]() You can work remotely if you learn to automate data, you can VPN to the database, you can build data automation for yourself, for your friends/family, or customers. Helping others find high paying jobs, learn more about ETL, SQL, analytics, data automation, and opinions from professions in the career. I've released hundreds of blogs in the past 3 years about analytics and tried dozens of enterprise solutions. is nearly an impossible task because anyone can rank a website, anyone can build a website, anyone can buy click advertisements, and none of this helps you learn to automate data. Finding the right tools, finding the right blogs, and ensuring you're spending the right amount of time learning the right things. As people race to their favorite applications amazon, apple, google, facebook, twitter, linkedin, and billions of websites - we have all been put on a mission to generate more data than anyone knows what to do with and it's up to you to start learning, helping others master these new channels of data, or create your own!īuilding data automation to solve a problem is going to be your first step. ![]()
